One Hour Dinner Rolls

Soft and Fluffy Dinner Rolls Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F / 45°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 standard packet)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Extra melted butter for brushing the rolls after baking

Instructions

  1. Proof the Yeast

    • Pour the warm water into a large mixing bowl.
    • Stir in the yeast and sugar.
    • Let the mixture rest for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy on top, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Prepare the Dough

    • Add the melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until combined.
    • Gradually add the flour, about 1 cup at a time, stirring after each addition.
    • Continue adding flour until a soft, slightly tacky dough forms.
    • Knead the dough for 5–7 minutes, either by hand on a lightly floured surface or using a mixer with a dough hook, until smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise

    • Place the dough back into the bowl (lightly greased if desired).
    • Cover with a clean kitchen towel.
    • Let it rise in a warm spot for about 15–20 minutes, just until slightly puffy.
  4. Shape the Rolls

    • Gently punch down the dough to release air.
    • Divide it into 12 equal portions.
    • Shape each piece into a smooth ball.
    • Arrange the dough balls on a greased baking sheet or snugly in a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  5. Second Rise

    • Cover the shaped rolls with a towel.
    • Allow them to rise again for about 15 minutes, until they look lighter and a bit puffed.
  6. Bake the Rolls

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Bake the rolls for 12–15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the rolls are cooked through.
  7. Finish with Butter

    • Remove the pan from the oven.
    • While the rolls are still hot, brush the tops generously with melted butter for added softness and rich flavor.

Serve these warm, homemade dinner rolls alongside your favorite meal for a cozy, comforting touch at the table.
