Materials You’ll Need
- 1 fresh lemon
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
- A sponge or soft cloth
- Water
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Prepare the Cleaning Paste
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a small bowl. Gradually stir in baking soda until you get a thick paste, then add about 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and blend well. -
Apply the Paste to the Soleplate
Ensure the iron is completely cool and unplugged. Using a soft cloth or sponge, gently spread the paste over the iron’s soleplate, avoiding the steam holes. -
Let It Sit and Wipe Clean
Leave the paste on for a few minutes so it can break down any buildup. Then, use a damp cloth to wipe the surface clean. For the steam holes, carefully clean them with a cotton swab to remove any remaining residue.
-
Steam Clean the Inside
Fill the iron’s water tank with a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water. Turn on the steam function and let it run until the reservoir is empty to help clear mineral deposits. Refill the tank with clean water and steam again to flush out any vinegar. -
Final Wipe-Down
Once the iron has cooled, inspect the soleplate and wipe it with a clean, slightly damp cloth to ensure there is no leftover cleaner or residue.
