Sautéed Wild Mallow with Garlic and Olive Oil
Wild mallow (Malva sylvestris) is a nutrient-dense wild herb that has played an important role in traditional herbal medicine for generations. Rich in vitamins, minerals, and powerful antioxidants, this edible plant is known for supporting digestion, soothing the gut, and helping to strengthen the immune system.
The recipe below offers a simple, flavorful way to enjoy wild mallow as part of a healthy, everyday meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups fresh wild mallow leaves, thoroughly washed and chopped
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions

Warm the oil
Place a pan over medium heat and add the olive oil.
-
Sauté the garlic
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, just until it becomes fragrant but not browned. -
Add the wild mallow
Add the chopped wild mallow leaves to the pan, tossing to coat them evenly in the oil and garlic. -
Season the greens
Sprinkle in the salt, black pepper, and cumin (if you choose to use it). Mix well so the spices are evenly distributed. -
Cook until tender
Continue to sauté for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mallow leaves soften and become tender. -
Finish and serve
Remove the pan from the heat. Serve the wild mallow warm, topped with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to brighten the flavors.
