Homemade Avocado Seed Powder
Turn leftover avocado seeds into a simple, nutrient-rich powder you can add to drinks and meals.
Ingredients
- 1 avocado seed
- Optional: ground spices such as chili powder, paprika, or turmeric to boost flavor
Instructions
-
Clean the Seed
Rinse the avocado seed under running water to remove any remaining avocado flesh. Dry it thoroughly with a paper towel. -
Dry the Seed

- Let the seed air-dry at room temperature for about 24 hours, or
- Place it on a baking tray and dry it in the oven at low heat (around 120°C / 250°F) for 1–2 hours, until it is completely dry and firm.
Drying the seed well makes it much easier to grate.
-
Peel the Outer Skin (Optional)
After drying, you may peel off the thin brown layer covering the seed. This step is optional and based on your preference. -
Grate the Seed
Using a fine grater or microplane, carefully grate the dried avocado seed. You’ll get a fine powder with a reddish-orange color.
Take care with your fingers—the seed is quite hard. -
Optional: Mix with Spices
For extra taste, combine the avocado seed powder with spices like chili powder, paprika, or turmeric. This blend works especially well in savory recipes. -
Store the Powder
Transfer the finished avocado seed powder (or spice mix) into an airtight container. Keep it in a cool, dry place and use within about one week for best quality.
