Soft and Fluffy Dinner Rolls Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F / 45°C)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 standard packet)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 to 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- Extra melted butter for brushing the rolls after baking
Instructions
-
Proof the Yeast
- Pour the warm water into a large mixing bowl.
- Stir in the yeast and sugar.
- Let the mixture rest for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy on top, indicating the yeast is active.
-
Prepare the Dough
- Add the melted butter, egg, and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until combined.
- Gradually add the flour, about 1 cup at a time, stirring after each addition.
- Continue adding flour until a soft, slightly tacky dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 5–7 minutes, either by hand on a lightly floured surface or using a mixer with a dough hook, until smooth and elastic.
-
First Rise

- Place the dough back into the bowl (lightly greased if desired).
- Cover with a clean kitchen towel.
- Let it rise in a warm spot for about 15–20 minutes, just until slightly puffy.
-
Shape the Rolls
- Gently punch down the dough to release air.
- Divide it into 12 equal portions.
- Shape each piece into a smooth ball.
- Arrange the dough balls on a greased baking sheet or snugly in a 9×13-inch baking pan.
-
Second Rise
- Cover the shaped rolls with a towel.
- Allow them to rise again for about 15 minutes, until they look lighter and a bit puffed.
-
Bake the Rolls
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the rolls for 12–15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the rolls are cooked through.
-
Finish with Butter
- Remove the pan from the oven.
- While the rolls are still hot, brush the tops generously with melted butter for added softness and rich flavor.
Serve these warm, homemade dinner rolls alongside your favorite meal for a cozy, comforting touch at the table.
