Homemade Natural Ginger Beer Recipe

Enjoy a refreshing, zesty, and soothing homemade ginger beer made with simple, natural ingredients. This recipe is perfect if you love bold ginger flavor with a hint of lemon.

Ingredients

  • 7 oz (about 1 ½ cups) ground ginger
  • 15.2 fl oz (about 1 ¾ cups) mineral water
  • 8 oz (about 1 cup) sugar
    • You can substitute with organic honey if preferred
  • 3.9 fl oz (about ½ cup) sparkling water
  • A few drops of fresh lemon juice
  • Lemon slices, for garnish
  • Ice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook the ginger base
Add the ground ginger and mineral water to a saucepan. Place over medium-high heat and bring to a boil. Once boiling, lower the heat and let it gently simmer for about 10 minutes.

  2. Strain the liquid
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Carefully strain the hot ginger mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl or jug, pressing to extract as much liquid as possible.

  3. Sweeten the ginger mixture
While the liquid is still warm, add the sugar (or organic honey). Stir thoroughly until it is completely dissolved.

  4. Cool the mixture
Allow the sweetened ginger liquid to rest at room temperature until it has cooled down.

  5. Add bubbles and lemon
Once the mixture is cool, pour in the sparkling water and add a few drops of lemon juice. Stir gently to combine without losing too much carbonation.

  6. Chill the ginger beer
Transfer the ginger beer into a clean, airtight bottle or container. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until thoroughly chilled.

  7. Serve and enjoy
Fill glasses with ice, pour over the chilled ginger beer, and garnish with fresh lemon slices.

Sip and enjoy your homemade, natural, and invigorating ginger beer.
